to the states essentially by population. so the most popular states like california for example have the largest number of electoral votes. 55 electoral votes in the case of california. so you see all of those states together and there is one outlier down there in the south the state of florida we have not been able to make a cbs news projection for the state of florida yet because the vote there is so close. it won't make a difference in this race. it was ohio that put president obama over the top tonight, even if mitt romney won florida tonight it would not be nearly enough to bring him up to parody with the president. but let's have a look at the vote count in florida. this is the tabulated vote. 97% of the vote is in. the president has a slender lead but look at that. out of 8 million votes cast, the president has roughly 70,000 more votes than mitt romney. out of eight million or so votes cats in florida. remarkable thing. let's have a look at the popular vote as well. this is the national popular vote. 54 million for the president, 53 million and change for mitt romney. the president has a

the california coast. this will roll eastward eventually. the good news, we don't have to worry about that until late monday and particularly on tuesday. in the meantime we have clear skies, calm winds, a nice evening. temperatures, a few 30s on this map but mainly 40s, 43 in gaithersburg, 44 great falls now, 45 in fairfax. looking at 42 in laytonsville, 47 in laurel and college park. there were a few 30s on there last hour. so becoming milder, cool to chilly for high school football, milder tomorrow. warmer on sunday and still mild, veterans day, really pretty nice even though some showers y creep in late monday. tonight clear and chilly, one blanket night, 34 to 44, wind northwest at 10. by morning sunny with a chilly start but mild by lunchtime, 30s and 40s to start, but we think by lunchtime maybe 60? at least upper 50s, light wind. by afternoon mostly sunny and milder, just beautiful, high temperature near 65 and winds south, southeast at 10. next three days, our 9 weather hear thes will be green, green, green and why not? milder tomorrow, 64, 70 sunday with sunshine and still nice on monda

in southern california. they are banned in 50 cities and counties across the state. francine shops with her own reuseable bags and wants more communities to enforce bans. >> if they went through a garbage dump or trash site, they'll think twice about it. >> supporters of the ban say plastic bags crowd landfills, threaten marine life. >> where plastic is banned, stores go through piles of paper bags. those also take a toll on the environment but about 50% do get recycled. >> that's compared to about 5% of plastic bags. manufacturers say banning the bags is unfair. >> the amount of litter that plastic bags produce is less than half of 1%. >> with the aadvocacy group. and plastic bags make up closer to 25%. >> litter on the streets gets washed through the storm drains out to the beach. and plastic bags are often part of that trash. >> since the floating plastic can resemble jelly fish, animals confuse it for food. the future could depend on what happens in los angeles. la is studying the impact of passing own ban and could become the largest city in the country to trash plastic bags. cbs news

at california, you have a storm here. there's another storm here. so these two storms are going to gang up on the west o coast over the next few days, so probably see news stories with heavy rains and snows. and the clouds continue to blow up to the north off of those showers and that's why we're kind of stuck in the cloudiness right now. i think a little bit later this afternoon we'll get a little bit o bit -- of sun before nighttime occurs. this is underdone with the clouds, but the point i want to make is the showers from north carolina coming into southeast virginia. clouds with us somewhat overnight east of 95 and tomorrow we'll get rid of the clouds and end up being a decent day around here, a little warmer, maybe 54, 55, and again on saturday, another decent days as high temperatures get back into the mid-50s. tonight 30s, partly to mostly cloudy again. cold spots north and west could be closer to 30 degrees. tomorrow 54 with more sun. saturday still looks mostly sunny and cool. 56. a few more clouds sunday. that coastal storm looks like it's going to stay far enough south and east.

hispanic vote, about 11% this time out and you see an influx of younger people and people from california who have come here and they have changed the complexion of this state. it's now a very purple state. a third democratic, a third republican and this county where i am a third independent. we're here in arapaho which is south of denver, one of the swingiest of the swing counties. you can see behind me they're counting ballots. they're counting ballots that have already been mailed in. that's the numbers we're working on now. this is a big mail in early vote, early state here in arapaho, county. about 68% people mailed in before voting started today. now this is a state that was concerned about voting problems but it didn't turn out that way. because so many people voted early, the polling places were able to handle people who showed up. one area where they had a 90 minute, two hour wait and they said to people look if you change precincts you can go next door and you can vote in five minutes. that said, now this state is really beginning to count the votes that were cast today. about a
